About the Role
Melbourne Polytechnic is seeking an experienced Senior Governance Officer (Academic Boards) to play a key role in supporting our Academic Boards and subcommittees.
You'll join a team committed to excellence in governance and play a pivotal role in shaping the academic integrity of Melbourne Polytechnic.In this role, you will provide authoritative advice and high-quality governance support to the Executive Director – Educational Excellence, Board Chairs, and other senior stakeholders. You will manage the administration and operations of the Higher Education Academic Board (HEAB), the VET and Foundation Academic Board (VFAB), and the Education Quality Committee (EQC).
This position sits within the Office of the Chief Executive, Governance Unit and is critical to ensuring the smooth functioning of academic governance systems, compliance with regulatory frameworks, and uplifting capability in academic governance across the Institute.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide leadership and timely governance advice to Academic Boards, committees, and senior stakeholders.
- Manage all aspects of Academic Board operations, including scheduling, papers, and meeting coordination.
- Support policy and procedure reviews and facilitate reporting to governance committees.
- Mentor staff in governance report writing and uplift governance capability across MP.
- Prepare minutes, reports, and governance documentation in line with MP's records management framework.
- Manage Board elections, induction programs, and evaluation activities.
- Drive continuous improvement of academic governance systems and processes.
Skills and Experience Required
We are looking for someone with:
- A relevant degree and postgraduate qualification (e.g. business, law, or similar).
- Minimum 5 years' experience in the tertiary education sector (higher education and/or VET).
- Strong governance and compliance expertise, with knowledge of relevant legislative frameworks.
- Excellent planning, organisation, and communication skills.
- Proven ability to build credibility and collaborate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
Additional Requirements
Successful candidate will be required to provide:
- A valid Victorian Employee Working with Children Check (WWCC)
- A National Police Check
