Are you a unicorn with a passion for technology and exceptional people skills? Do you have the technical aptitude to solve complex problems and the political finesse to build relationships and navigate diverse stakeholder interests? We are looking for a highly skilled and strategic National Manager to lead the Technical Support Unit for one of Australia's premier motoring/ roadside assistance providers.
About the Role:
As the National Manager for the Technical Support Unit, you'll be at the intersection of cutting-edge automotive technology and customer service, ensuring that roadside assistance patrol teams are equipped with the technical resources, knowledge, and expertise to tackle a wide variety of vehicle issues. You will lead a team of three (3) to help create training materials, video content, and innovative solutions that can be accessed by the patrol teams on the road, improving efficiencies and customer experience.

The ideal candidate:
You will possess a strong technical background, such as an engineering degree or a deep technical aptitude, combined with a passion for problem-solving and continuous learning. While you don't need to be a mechanic, a keen interest in understanding complex technical challenges is essential. Additionally, experience in process improvement will be highly valued. Alongside technical proficiency, you will need strong people skills to effectively navigate various personalities, manage competing priorities, and engage stakeholders with different levels of influence across the business.
In addition to proven leadership skills, you should also possess strategic and commercial thinking as well as strong organisational and communication skills as you will be managing technical information, driving initiatives, and putting forward business cases for changes to improve operations.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Stakeholder Management: Engaging with key stakeholders from vehicle OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) and various roadside assistance clubs to manage relationships, build consensus, and gain approval for technical initiatives.
- Problem-Solving & Innovation: Collaborating with OEM technical teams to develop solutions for common roadside issues.
- Strategic Leadership: Thinking strategically about the future of roadside assistance, identifying opportunities for improvement, cost-effective solutions, and ways to enhance the customer experience.
- Team Leadership & Development: Leading a small but growing team, ensuring they have the resources, guidance, and motivation to thrive by providing direction, fostering collaboration, and ensuring a positive work culture..
- Process Improvement: Evaluating and improving the technical resources, systems, and processes used by the team.
- Commercial Thinking: Being the driving force behind bringing innovative, cost-effective solutions to life, whether it's developing new technical resources, optimising systems, or improving product offerings for technical support.
