The Federal Court is seeking an innovative and enthusiastic data champion to plan and lead initiatives in support of an entity-wide data uplift.

**Position overview**
The Digital Court Program (DCP) is part of the IT section, and is responsible for modernising and optimising technology and capability to support the work of the Court and its users.
Within the DCP, the Data team is responsible for planning and implementing an uplift in Courts-wide data management and strategy, and providing insights to support the broader work of the DCP. Within the multi-disciplinary team, the Assistant Data Lead will support the Data Lead in establishing a data governance framework and related policies, artefacts and processes. Specifically, the Assistant Data Lead will take ownership of the design, development and maintenance of a data asset inventory, an operational data dictionary, a framework for managing and improving data quality, and processes to collate, triage and respond to data management issues as they arise.
The Assistant Data Lead will be required to work proactively with a range of stakeholders to understand and document the Courts’ complex data environment, identify risks and opportunities with reference to agreed data governance principles, and prepare strategies and policies to support a move towards consistent and coordinated data use. The role requires a sound grasp of data concepts and governance principles, as well as excellent organisational, stakeholder management and communication skills.

**Duties**
- Proactively identify opportunities to improve data management practices and drive related improvement initiatives in accordance with broader strategic goals.
- Design, implement and maintain critical data governance artefacts including a data asset inventory, an operational data dictionary, and data issue management processes and tools.
- Lead the design and establishment of a data governance framework within the DCP, including in relation to data quality management, with regard to best practice principles, legislative requirements and the Courts’ operating environment.
- Write policies, guides and other reference materials to formalise and communicate data management structures, to support compliance with defined standards and principles.
- Establish a professional network to enable the promotion and coordination of an organisational uplift in data culture and management, connected to the broader strategic objectives of the Courts.

**Selection criteria**
- A sound understanding of data governance principles, concepts and tools.
- Experience in successfully designing and implementing strategies, initiatives or processes to support improved data management.
- Proven ability to innovate in a complex work environment, with an analytical and strategic approach to problem solving, showing sound judgement under limited supervision.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to articulate complex ideas clearly and persuasively and facilitate cooperation between diverse stakeholder groups.
- Excellent organisational and written communication skills, with the ability to drive and coordinate a variety of concurrent activities and produce high-quality outputs.

**Other considerations**
Relevant industry or tertiary qualifications in data management or governance will be well regarded.
