Assistant Directors in the Veteran and Family Policy Division are responsible for developing and implementing new policy proposals and challenging pre-existing policies to improve the services available to veterans and their families. These roles are instrumental in driving change across DVA. Successful applicants will be passionate about improving services for veterans and their families, and will need to have strong oral and written communication skills, the ability to support productive working relationships, and build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Successful applicants will need to work as a team player delivering to short timeframes, during peak periods.
**Duties**
Broadly, applicants should have the skills and abilities required to:
- Lead a team, including supporting development, managing performance and contributing to the management of the section and the branch;
- Provide high quality written and verbal policy advice to the Government, Minister and Executive in relation to veterans’ issues, including health, aged care and/or mental health, and drafting associated documents including ministerial and executive submissions and correspondence;
- Interpret and draft policy relevant to Veteran and Family Policy Division and develop new policy proposals, including policy costings;
- Ability to analyse and provide technical advice, including using health, social and economic data; and
- Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong organisational skills including the ability to effectively prioritise to meet deadlines, manage competing tasks and demonstrated initiative and problem solving skills.
- Project management, including planning and scheduling.
- Procurement and contract management skills.
**Eligibility**
- Applicants must be an Australian citizen to apply.
- Desirable - Protected Baseline Clearance, or the ability to obtain one.
**Notes**
A merit pool will be established that may be used to fill similar positions (ongoing/non-ongoing) within the next 18 months.
