**The Role**
The School Assurance Branch (the Branch), operating in a complex co-regulatory environment comprising Commonwealth and State and Territory governments, is responsible for the assurance of Commonwealth school funding provided under the Australian Education Act 2013 (the Act) and the Australian Education Regulation 2013 (the Regulation), ensuring the accuracy and integrity of payments through an assurance and compliance program delivered under an Assurance Framework, supported by legislation. The Branch is structured in a way that prevents, detects and responds to non-compliance.
The Branch supports a positive, collaborative, and inclusive culture supporting cohesive teams and continuous business improvement in our processes and work in partnership with stakeholders.
The Branch is seeking highly skilled and self-motivated professionals to fill APS6 Compliance Officer roles to undertake and oversee proactive compliance activities to prevent and detect non compliance with the Act and the Regulation. The Compliance and Reviews team undertakes key assurance activities such as school audits and complex compliance case management, including managing schools that are non-compliant, or at risk of becoming non-compliant.
**Duties and Responsibilities**
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Providing advice on compliance with requirements in the legislation, including ongoing compliance activities.
- Leading investigations and preparing parameters for audits into potential non compliance with the legislation.
- Leading or managing the preparation of briefing material and reports, including dashboard reporting.
- Ability to understand relevant auditing, data, financial analysis, legal and governance concepts and issues in the context of complex compliance matters.
- Effectively managing relationships with regulated entities in the schools sector, and other Commonwealth, state and territory regulators.
**Qualifications and Education**
- Qualifications in compliance/regulation/auditing/finance/economics are desirable.
- Certificate IV in Government Investigations is highly regarded, or willingness for the successful applicant to undertake this course.
