API’s Pharmacy business provides wholesale distribution, business and marketing services to community pharmacies across Australia. The Retail business is one of Australia’s leading health and beauty market retailers through its retail brand Priceline. The Consumer business is a niche player in over-the-counter pharmaceuticals and is based in New Zealand.

API is currently looking to appoint an experienced Category Manager to join our Wholesale Health & Beauty Category Team. Based at the Melbourne Support office the Category Manager is a leader in the category team and is accountable for setting and achieving the KPIs and ROI on their category through the innovative design & planned execution of strategy.

The Category Manager has an extensive knowledge of category management and strategic sourcing. They lead the category portfolio and are accountable for performance and growth.

**About the Role**:
**Key responsibilities of the role include:
- Accountable for driving the direction, success and planning for the category Focusing on key category growth and actively seek strategic opportunities to grow the category
- Analysing the external environment to find opportunities in customer and global trends, converting insights into actions
- Manages (with the Financial Planner / Commercial Manager) the budgets and financial performance of the categories, ensuring the category P&L is met
- Accountable for the P&L of their category by maintaining a commercial lens of the category performance
- The negotiation, management, and performance of API/Priceline beneficial terms with Supplier Partners across their portfolio which meet the needs of the category plan
- Using their extensive understanding of procurement principle and negotiate procurement of required stock, including negotiating purchase by consignment
- Lead a cross-functional team by example, make timely decisions and demonstrate high levels of integrity and compliance to category management processes
- Coach and mentor others to develop a highly capable team
- Accountable for leading the Category Management operating rhythm as it pertains to the category
- In collaboration with the Inventory Team, lead the oversight of stock levels

**About you**:
- Tertiary qualification (Business, Marketing or Retail)
- Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Category Manager, Buying/Merchandise Manager or Account Manager
- Pharmaceutical industry, with an understanding of government and scheme compliance requirements - desirable
- Extensive category management background and knowledge of best practice
- A strong understanding of inventory management processes, including demand planning & forecasting and supplier management
- Proficient analytical skills to draw insights from complex data and present these alongside creative solutions
- Lead by example and develop the knowledge and skills of others
- Set direction for the team, changing tact where necessary to maximise returns and manage setbacks within a fast-paced environment
- Ability to find innovative solutions to deliver market growth for the category/ies and portfolio
- Able to instil a growth mindset in the team and provide clear guidance to others
- Proven ability to communicate and influence, moving a cross-functional team toward a common vision or goal
- Strong time management skills, with the ability to juggle priorities and take control of demanding situations
- Proficient in using Microsoft suite and common systems
