**The Role**
The Australian Army History Unit (AAHU) is a high profile organisation that is responsible for the collection, conservation, interpretation and promotion of Australian Army history and heritage. The APS 5 Historian position is diverse and challenging.

Duties include:

- Managing the Army History Research Grants Scheme and CEW Bean History Prize.
- Providing secretariat support to AAHU committees.
- Assists with the coordination of the biennial Chief of Army History Conference.
- Managing the historical enquiries mailbox, which includes research tasks from within the department and from other Government agencies.
- Manage the knowledge management assets of the AAHU History Section.

**About our Team**
The APS5 Historian position is located at the Unit Headquarters at Campbell Park Offices in Canberra. The AAHU team are a blend of APS and Army personnel who work collaboratively to support the recording and preservation of Army’s history and the Army Museum Network, which consists of 18 Museums located across the country.

The History Section has several functions including managing the AAHU publishing program, the Army History Grants Scheme, the Australian Army Battle Honours Committee and researching and documenting Army’s military history. The work of the team is diverse, creating an interesting and rewarding work environment.

The APS5 Historian role will suit a highly motivated and experienced individual with an interest or experience in military history, relevant academic qualifications and an understanding of Army.

The APS5 Historian will have:

- Excellent communication skills.
- Demonstrated research skills.
- An interest or experience in military history.
- Relevant academic qualifications.
- The ability to work in a fluid environment by remaining flexible, agile and adaptable.
- The ability to build and sustain collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- The ability to work under limited direction as part of a diverse team consisting of Australian Public Service (APS) and Military staff, and
- An understanding of the Australian Army.
