The Department of Home Affairs is responsible for centrally coordinated strategy and policy leadership in relation to domestic national security arrangements, law enforcement, emergency management, counter-terrorism, social cohesion, the protection of our sovereignty, the integrity of our border and the resilience of our national infrastructure.

The Australian Border Force, an operationally independent body within the Department of Home Affairs, is Australia's frontline border law enforcement agency and Australia's customs service. The Australian Border Force's mission is to protect Australia's border and facilitate the legitimate movement of people and goods across it.

**Overview of the Branch and Section**:
Special Investigations Branch (SIB) provides a specialist investigation and enforcement capability focusing on the detection, deterrence and disruption of actors and organisations that present operational and strategic border threats. Working collaboratively with partner agencies (domestically and offshore), the branch contributes to whole of government law enforcement and national security missions, as well as the protection of the Australian community through the enforcement of customs and migration laws. The breadth of programs the Branch covers relate to include counter terrorism, counter proliferation, organised and financial crime, and illicit tobacco.

**About the role**:
The occupant will be required to undertake analysis, liaison and engagement with stakeholders and partner agencies in order to support ABF operations and regional investigation teams. Officers will have knowledge of, or the ability to obtain knowledge of, the ABF operational planning framework, Customs and Migration policy and legislation and have an understanding of broader enforcement strategies used to disrupt those involved in the commission of criminal offences relating to ABF operational priorities.
Officers will also be responsible for providing strategic support through the coordination and drafting of executive briefing and reports in response to ministerial and parliamentary matters, national security and joint agency taskforce requirements. These positions enable whole-of-government outcomes to safeguard the Australian community.

**Specific duties/responsibilities**:

- Demonstrate the enforcement attributes of a professional, disciplined ABF Officer to; Be Informed, Be Curious, Work with Others, and Disrupt with Intent
- Produce high quality work to distribute to stakeholders across the ABF and the Portfolio, whilst adhering to information sharing protocols across law enforcement partners
- Represent the ABF with stakeholders from law enforcement and intelligence agencies
- Coordinate administrative and business support activities across SIB
- Design, deliver and review training and capacity building activities
- Promote leadership including the coordination and management of team performance
- Build strong networks within the national and international law enforcement community
- A knowledge of Migration and Customs Act legislation including experience in Command and Control and/or Incident Command and Control System Plus (ICCS+)
- Perform analysis and liaison to inform enforcement responses as part of investigations or compliance program requirements
- Some roles will require participation in an on-call roster, responding to out-of-hours enquiries.

**Role requirements/qualifications**:

- Certificate IV Government Investigations or equivalent (desirable)
- Diploma Government Investigations or equivalent (desirable)
- Experience in law enforcement or equivalent operational experience (desirable)
