The Department of Home Affairs is responsible for centrally coordinated strategy and policy leadership in relation to domestic national security arrangements, law enforcement, emergency management, counter-terrorism, social cohesion, the protection of our sovereignty, the integrity of our border and the resilience of our national infrastructure.

The Australian Border Force, an operationally independent body within the Department of Home Affairs, is Australia's frontline border law enforcement agency and Australia's customs service. The Australian Border Force's mission is to protect Australia's border and facilitate the legitimate movement of people and goods across it.

If you answered yes, then an APS6 Recommendations Monitoring Officer role in the Department’s Internal Scrutiny Section is the opportunity for you. In this role you will play an active part in helping to ensure that the Department is implementing changes to fix identified gaps in policy and processes.

We have multiple vacant APS6 positions available to join the Recommendations Monitoring team performing a variety of tasks related to the oversight of audit and assurance review recommendations. Auditing experience is not required for these roles. A merit list will be created from this process which may be used to fill future vacancies within the Internal Scrutiny Section.

**About the Section**:
The Internal Scrutiny Section are seeking high performing, self-motivated team members.

The Section is responsible for:

- Active tracking and monitoring of audit recommendations, and advising staff about how to implement/close these recommendations
- Delivery of the Department’s Annual Internal Audit Program (IAP) and reporting on themes and issues arising from audit activities across the Department
- Managing the relationship with the Department’s external contractors providing internal audit services
- Providing Secretariat support to the Department’s Audit Committee.

**About the Branch**:
The Audit and Assurance Branch manages a range of internal and external scrutiny functions (including monitoring of
recommendations), administrative compliance activity and oversight of the Department's fraud and corruption control practices.

The Branch is responsible for:

- Overseeing the Internal Assurance Framework
- Managing the relationship with external scrutiny bodies
- Managing internal audit services and monitoring recommendations identified through audit findings
- Developing the Annual Compliance Performance Statement
- Administration of the Policy and Procedure Control Framework
- Development of the Fraud and Corruption Control Plans for the Department and the ABF and associated fraud control functions.

**About the role**:
The Recommendations Monitoring Officer is responsible for the oversight of audit and assurance review recommendations. This includes undertaking research, analysis, stakeholder engagement, writing reports briefings within the scope of agreed frameworks, policies and procedures. The Recommendations Monitoring Officer also collects and analyses relevant information to identify risks, issues and avenues of further enquiry to assess requests for recommendation closure, preparing recommendation closure into information packs and supporting the achievements of Audit and Assurance quality goals.

**Specific duties/responsibilities**:

- Administer recommendations monitoring database
- Create briefs and statistics reports
- Engage with internal and external key stakeholders and develop strong working relationships
- Work independently and as part of a team, taking a lead role in balancing own priorities, workload and outputs
- Contribute to the work of Audit and Assurance Branch more broadly
- Be responsible for creating complete and accurate records in accordance with the current legislation and Departmental policy
- Undertake other duties as directed.
