The Department of Home Affairs is responsible for centrally coordinated strategy and policy leadership in relation to domestic national security arrangements, law enforcement, emergency management, counter-terrorism, social cohesion, the protection of our sovereignty, the integrity of our border and the resilience of our national infrastructure.

The Australian Border Force, an operationally independent body within the Department of Home Affairs, is Australia's frontline border law enforcement agency and Australia's customs service. The Australian Border Force's mission is to protect Australia's border and facilitate the legitimate movement of people and goods across it.

**About our Branch**:
Strategic Coordination is a small, friendly and dynamic Branch that provides strategic analysis and advice to support the Australian Border Force (ABF) and it’s Executive by providing a whole-of-agency view of priorities, strategy, performance and business planning.

**Our Branch consists of four high performing Sections**:

- ABF Capability Coordination_

The ABF Capability Coordination (ABFCC) Section drives strategy led capability planning, investment and development for the ABF through centralised policy design, governance, coordination and support. The Section has a key role in embedding effective capability management within the ABF, in accordance with the overarching Capability Management Framework led by the Department of Home Affairs.
- ABF Strategy_

This team supports the development of strategically considered, whole-of-ABF priorities, policies and initiatives. We drive the whole-of-ABF strategic narrative across key inputs such as the Integrated Strategic Plan, Future Ready, Strategic Outlook and Strategic Guidance, as well as investing and building key relationships with stakeholders, including Finance Division and Strategy Division, where we
represent the ABF through key strategic fora and decision making bodies.
- Corporate Business Planning and Reporting (CBPR)_

CBPR drives performance reporting and business planning across the whole Agency. CBPR consult with all ABF Groups and the Department of Home Affairs to bring together ABF’s input to the Annual report, Corporate Plan and business plan reporting. These processes help shape and inform the organisation’s planning and ensures the ABF remains accountable to the Australian public.

ABF Investment Strategy & Support provides strategic investment advice on budget proposals, costings and internal budget management of ABF. The team is consulted on New Policy Proposals (NPPs) and costings and can advise on whether the proposal is consistent with Budget and Cabinet processes and rules. The team helps strengthen investment proposals from budget strategy perspective to give ABF the best chance of gaining support for its recommendations. The team can serve as a link between External Budgets and the ABF. The team also assists Industry & Border Systems (I&BS) in managing the internal budget of ABF.
