**Who is the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator?**
The National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) commenced operations in 2013 as a national entity responsible for
regulating all vehicles in Australia over 4.5 tonnes gross vehicle mass. Located in Brisbane, the NHVR minimises the
compliance burden on the heavy vehicle transport industry, reduces duplication and inconsistencies across state and
territory borders, and ultimately for the heavy vehicle business with government in Australia.

Position Description | Media and Communications Officer
The Corporate Affairs division is responsible for setting up to pre-empt and respond to government and external
stakeholder requirements and demands in an agile way in support of NHVR’s vision and purpose. It is the intent for
Corporate Affairs to be able to direct requests on behalf of the CEO and to draw on support and resources as needed to
fulfil NHVR’s external affairs and obligations.
**Primary Objectives**
To deliver consistent and effective media and communication for the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator to internal and
external stakeholders in line with the organisation’s strategic objectives and branding strategy.
**Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities**
- Support the conceptualisation, development, and implementation of NHVR media and communication
plans/campaigns that deliver the desired messages to target audiences in the most effective and cost-efficient way.
- Assist the Manager, Media and Communications to ensure the media and communications strategy is implemented
and coordinated across all channels, including alignment with partner organisations.
- Support leading practice and innovative media techniques to optimise and promote services delivered under the
NHVR and provide specialist advice on media relations.
- Work with the Manager Media and Communications to operationalise media and communication strategies to
assist in achieving business targets.
- Develop various media and communications material including media releases, media responses, social media
information, internal and external online and printed publications and marketing and promotional materials.
- Prepare and deliver submissions, briefs, talking points, speeches and reports for a variety of settings.
- Ensure the corporate style guide is adhered to in all aspects of media, marketing and communication projects.
- Adhere to all NHVR policies and procedures to ensure compliance with NHVR internal processes.
- Comply with WH&S policies and procedures and contribute and promote a safe and healthy work environment.
**Skills and Capabilities**
- Demonstrated ability and experience to develop and implement proactive media and communication strategies,
including through social media.
- Demonstrated understanding and experience in media liaison and managing media enquiries.
- Demonstrated experience in managing online environments to develop relationships with users, especially social
media channels.
- Ability to source, manage and edit information from a range of sources and present in line with corporate style and
values.
