Reporting to the Discipline Leader Hypersonics Engineering and operating from the Defence Science and Technology Group (DSTG) Edinburgh site, the Launch Operations Lead is responsible for leading a team focused on managing and conducting launch operations for hypersonic system flight testing, and leading the development of strategies and plans for future hypersonic flight test and evaluation capabilities.

The Launch Operations Team has a variety of key deliverables, including:

- Range operations and test infrastructure.
- Flight test vehicle and rocket motor system integration.
- Flight trial planning, management, execution and logistics.

This is a fast-paced and dynamic role in an expanding field of research and development. Due to the nature of launch activities, the role requires extensive travel into geographically remote locations for extended periods.

You will be required to work with national and international stakeholders and partners including academic, industry and government agencies. The role includes both contractual and financial elements requiring engagement and oversight, along with reporting on the planning, commitment, phasing and expenditure of allocated funds.

You will independently lead the Launch Operations Team to:

- Manage the physical delivery and sustainment of all test range launch operational assets, including responsibility for infrastructure and systems, engineered ground support equipment, range safety and approvals, compliance, and flight test vehicle recovery.
- Provide test range related input to overall program management, technical management, and flight vehicle and delivery systems integration.
- Oversee and manage key contractual arrangements with service providers that enable launch operations.
- Coordinate activities and logistics with teams across different geographic locations to ensure successful trial execution.

You will also be required to:

- Represent DSTG as the primary interface with Launch Service Provider (LSP) contractors, test ranges, and relevant government agencies.
- Anticipate and work collaboratively to establish priorities, develop schedules, monitor progress, and work to deliver agreed outcomes.
- Execute supervisory and management responsibilities for members of the team, plan and coordinate tasks, liaising with stakeholders to achieve Defence outcomes.
- Personally contribute to the fostering of a solution-orientated high performance team culture.
- Provide leadership in implementing and promoting continuous improvement.
- Build collaborative partnerships across Defence and DSTG, and lead engagements with international and industry partners.
