The role will monitor and report risks associated with the successful operation of a NATA and TGA accredited laboratory and collection service. It will coordinate and oversee the organisational safety programs within Pathology in line with the requirements of the Workplace, Health and Safety Act 2011 and the Mater Health Services Staff Health and Wellbeing Unit.

The role will manage a small team of Quality and Risk Officers and work closely with the Pathologists, Laboratory Supervisors, Scientists and Phlebotomists.

**What you'll be doing**

As the Quality and Risk Manager you will perform the following:

- Operate, maintain and develop the Pathology quality management system to comply with accreditation, certification and regulatory requirements including AS ISO 15189, NPAAC Standards, and the Australian Code of Good Manufacturing Practice for human blood and blood components, human tissues and human cellular therapy products / TGO 88 or equivalent. Specifically, this includes
- document and record management
- internal and third party audit review and management
- internal auditing
- annual management review of the quality system
- management of non-conformity and opportunities for quality improvement
- complaints management
- Representing Mater Pathology, liaise and communicate with regulatory and accreditation/certification authorities (e.g. NATA and TGA) on matters of compliance
- Provide specialist advice to the Pathology leadership team on matters of accreditation, certification and compliance to standards and guidelines
- Plan, coordinate and deliver education and training programs in quality management systems, document control, incident reporting, internal auditing and the Australian Code of Good Manufacturing Practice across pathology
- Responds and communicates with customers affected by risk to ensure negative impacts to the service are mitigated
- Identifies, reports, responds to and rectifies workplace health and safety (WHS) concerns from within own reporting structure
- Ensures Mater Pathology is compliant to regulatory and legislative policy and practices to operate
- Coordinate the planning and delivery of measurement and calibration systems across pathology including temperature, speed and weights and measures
- Coordinate pest management, cleaning and waste disposal services across pathology to meet Mater Health Services and TGA regulatory requirements
- Record and analyse quality performance measurements to improve service outcome and client satisfaction
- Review and analyse hospital incident reports with a view to service improvement and improved patient care
- Coordinate and oversee the organisational safety programs within Pathology in line with the requirements of the Workplace, Health and Safety Act 2011 and the Mater Health Services Staff Health and Wellbeing Unit. This includes liaison with pathology health and safety representatives, contributing to and assisting with planning, education and resource provision
- Collaborate with the Mater Health Services Clinical Safety and Quality Unit in maintaining compliance with the requirements of the National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards in achieving patient safety and quality of service
- Assist the General Manager and Medical Director in the management and monitoring of risks through the approved Risk Management Framework
- Development and maintenance of clinical policies, procedures and practices which will see the organisation achieve and maintain accreditation against NATA and TGA requirements
- Working closely with the Medical Director and General Manager to design and amend processes and procedures to deliver against the Clinical Governance Framework
- Drives change to ensure the service works cohesively to meet customer expectations
- Demonstrates currency in knowledge of accreditation, compliance processes, risk management and the continuous improvement of quality policies
- Actively reviews and reassesses pathology diagnostic services to meet the ever changing needs of the healthcare sector
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills to manage a very broad and diverse range of relationships
