About the business unit
The Victorian Law Reform Commission, established by the Victorian Law Reform Commission Act 2000 (Vic),is an independent, government-funded organisation, and the peak law reform body in Victoria. It reports to the Attorney-General and the Parliament of Victoria in discharging its statutory functions.
The Commission has a charter to facilitate community-wide consultation and to advise the Attorney-General on how to improve and update Victorian law. It makes recommendations for changes aimed at ensuring the legal system meets the needs and aspirations of the Victorian community.
The Commission's major responsibility is to undertake research and make recommendations on issues that are referred to it by the Attorney-General. Its recommendations are published in reports that are tabled in Parliament.
The Commission is committed to considered, timely, effective and inclusive law reform processes that give all members of the community the opportunity to express their views on areas of law that affect them.
About the role
**Some of your duties will include**:
- Supporting the Finance Manager with the VLRC's financial and accounting obligations in accordance with the Financial Management Act 1914, and other applicable financial reporting requirements.
- Assisting with the preparation and analysis of financial and compliance reporting ensuring completeness, reliability and accuracy.
- Providing support with budget preparation and monitoring of spend against budget.
- Assisting with organising internal audit committee meetings and liaising with stakeholders as required.
- participating in annual audits.

About you
**To be successful in this role, you will have**:
- A solid knowledge of financial and accounting procedures with demonstrated experience in the payment of accounts, corporate purchasing card processes, reconciliation of monthly expenditure with general ledger, journals and production of financial reports using Excel and Oracle showing attention to detail, with good analytical and numerical skills.
- A demonstrated ability to perform at a high level, a wide range of administrative and office support duties.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) including excellent telephone manner; interpersonal skills and a good knowledge of English grammar and spelling.
- Proficiency with Microsoft office including advanced MS Excel skills creating spreadsheets and databases.
- Sharp organisational and time management skills and the ability to work under pressure and adhere to strict deadlines.
Relevant skills, knowledge and experience
- Understanding of working within a strictly regulated environment.
- Experience or understanding of working within a small to medium sized organisation which may require flexibility in tasks and responsibility.
- To be successful in this role you will have a strong background in finance and be a good administrative allrounder who has a ‘sleeves up and on with it' approach to whatever is thrown your way.
