You will join a team of highly motivated and collaborative professionals that work in the Intelligence and Information Systems Division (IISD). The IISD is made up of three branches, the Chief Information Officer (CIO) branch, the Systems Design and Delivery branch and the National Criminal Intelligence System (NCIS) branch.
The IISD is responsible for providing national law enforcement, intelligence, research and corporate information systems and services to more than 70,000 police officers and other partner agencies and the Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission (ACIC) on a daily basis. Through the delivery of these critical ICT capabilities, and in partnership with the Business and Partnerships Division, the IIS Division supports the nation’s policing operations and ability to respond to serious and organised crime, cybercrime, counterterrorism and national security threats to keep the Australian community safe.
We are looking for Directors who will be responsible for overseeing the technical execution and successful delivery of digital projects, the NCIS Program and ICT services to the agency including cloud solutions, infrastructure, service operations and architecture.
The four identified vacancies include:
- Two Directors, Technical Delivery and Operations, NCIS Branch
- Director, Testing Services, Systems Design and Delivery Branch
- Director, Digital Engagement, Intelligence and Information Systems Division
The expectation is that these roles will support the positive culture of the branch, division and ACIC and ensure outcomes align with business objectives and meet the ACIC’s needs. These roles will also help promote transparency and accountability in everything that we do.
In conjunction with the divisional leadership team, the Director roles will oversee the work output and provide strategic leadership to their team.
- Think strategically, evaluating complex information from a variety of sources to make connections and sound decisions exercising good judgement
- Inspire and drive innovation through identifying opportunities for change and improvement across ways the division and our services operate
- Build and lead high-performing teams, that may include APS and contractors, ensuring quality outcomes that are aligned to stakeholder and organisational needs
- Guide, support, develop and mentor staff to achieve results and quality outcomes
- Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement aligned with the APS values
- Develop and maintain productive working relationships with key stakeholders including colleagues across the division, staff in the ACIC and partner agencies
- Build trusted relationships across the department, government, and industry
- Ensure effective stakeholder engagement, procurement, and project management practices to deliver results in a complex and evolving digital environment

- Demonstrated experience in building and leading high-performing teams to deliver complex work of strategic and operational significance.
- Strong technical leadership experience and demonstrated capabilities, preferable in a government or related digital setting.
- Demonstrated experience working under limited direction to manage and deliver IT services and/or large ICT transformation programs/projects.
- Ability to develop and manage relationships with a broad range of stakeholders and communicate with influence to engage strategically through change, resolve conflict and manage sensitivities.
- Demonstrated focus on continuous improvement for the department’s IT systems, procedures, practices and project delivery methodologies.
- Ability to identify and analyse IT service and/or program delivery risk and use professional judgement to develop and execute mitigation strategies and controls.
- Ability to lead and develop staff, building a foundation of trust, resilience, flexibility, and inclusive behaviours, through the delivery of the work program.
- Well-developed interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills with people at all levels, providing clear and concise information to a diverse range of stakeholders.
- Display self-awareness, change readiness and personal resilience, and take the initiative for own development and continuous learning of self and others.
