**Who is the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator?**

The National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) commenced operations in 2013 as a national entity responsible for
regulating all vehicles in Australia over 4.5 tonnes gross vehicle mass. Located in Brisbane, the NHVR minimises the
compliance burden on the heavy vehicle transport industry, reduces duplication and inconsistencies across state and
territory borders, and ultimately for the heavy vehicle business with government in Australia.

whilst enabling greater safety and productivity.

Position Description | Business Support Officer

The Operations division ensures the continued and improved effectiveness of operational processes and transactions for
customers and service users of the NHVR. The Division is accountable for operational safety and compliance functions
across the NHVR.

**Primary Objectives**

Provide effective, efficient and timely program and operational support to the Director Operations to assist in delivering
high quality, consistent heavy vehicle compliance and enforcement programs.

**Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities**
- Support program delivery through facilitating meetings, maintaining schedules, screening and disseminating phone

calls and undertaking high-level word-processing tasks.
- Support strategic decision making and accurate reporting for Safety and Compliance through maintaining databases

and compiling various management reports.
- Contribute to ensuring timely responses to all correspondence, general enquiries from customers, by initiating

actions and following up section managers to achieve efficient, customer focused front-line service.
- Provide sound financial processing support through the preparation, processing and checking of accounts, local

orders, expenses, petty cash etc. in accordance with approved finance procedures and policy.
- Support accurate and timely recording and costing of Branch activities by maintaining and reporting workflow and

activity, checking data accuracy and providing reports to the Director.
- Prepare enforcement related educational material and newsletter to be delivered to various internal and external

stakeholders.
- Adhere to all NHVR policies and procedures to ensure compliance with NHVR internal processes.
- Comply with WH&S policies and procedures and contribute and promote a safe and healthy work environment.

**Skills and Capabilities**
- Demonstrated ability to organise and prioritise work, meet strict deadlines and to work independently or as part of a

team.
- Demonstrated ability to establish, maintain and provide administrative and clerical services in a high-volume work

area.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise initiative and make sound administrative decisions in line with general policy and

procedures.
- Ability to prepare a variety of reports for management, including preparation and distribution of agenda, briefing

notes and taking of minutes.
- Demonstrated customer service skills including the ability to respond to customer enquiries in a timely and accurate

manner.
- Ability to assist in the preparation and monitoring of budgets.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to act with integrity in handling and processing

information of a confidential nature.
