Start your mission volunteer experience with The Salvation Army today
We are looking for compassionate people who share our mission and values, if you have the passion and drive to commit yourself to a challenging and rewarding role; we invite you to review our current vacancies.
ABOUT US
The Salvation Army is a Christian movement and one of Australia's largest and most-loved charities. We believe in doing good that transforms lives and futures for the better. It is this belief which drives us to find new ways and places where we can make a difference. From times of personal crisis to moments of national grief, we are always here — providing support, safety, community, and opportunity.
At Salvos Stores, we’re not just a retailer — we’re a community of changemakers working together to make a real difference. As the retail arm of The Salvation Army, we’re dedicated to raising funds that support life-changing programs for those in need. We operate over 400 Stores across Australia (including online), offering a sustainable shopping experience through the recycling of pre-loved items.
Are you passionate about volunteering and enjoy helping teams thrive? We’re looking for a dedicated Volunteer Recruitment & Admin Assistant to support the behind-the-scenes work that enables our volunteer program to succeed.
In this vital role, you will assist with a range of administrative activities related to recruiting, onboarding, and supporting volunteers. You’ll play a key part in ensuring volunteers feel welcomed and supported from the moment they apply, and you’ll contribute to the smooth operation of our programs that make a difference in the community.
This role is ideal for someone who:
- Enjoys administration, systems, and structured processes
- Values quality and continuous improvement
- Has strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Appreciates the role of volunteers and wants to contribute to their success
As the first point of contact for many new volunteers, you’ll help create a positive and professional first impression — laying the groundwork for a rewarding volunteer experience.
Please note - this volunteer role is not a paid position.
Required For the Position:
- Able to volunteer at our Noble Park Salvos Stores (VIC) office
- Experience in administration is essential
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and SharePoint
- Confident with online systems and software (or willing to learn), as well as using printers (specific on the job training will be provided)
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Foundational training which includes an introduction to The Salvation Army, code of conduct training, work-safe and child-safe practices
Key Responsibilities:
- Support ongoing volunteer involvement by attending to volunteer record administration, ensuring volunteer data and integrity checks are up to date.
- Support volunteer recruitment with initial follow up of expressions of interest, arranging meet and greets, along with assistance with volunteer training when required
- Compile regular reports of volunteers’ compliance and key recognition milestones (i.e. years of service, birthdays)
- Bring your attention to detail, professionalism and integrity to ensure that compliance and confidentiality is adhered to at all times
Background Check Requirements:
- As this role involves dealing with confidential information, with some records relating to under-18s, it requires a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check prior to commencement.
- Background checks play an important part in our commitment to being a safe organisation. Where an applicant has disclosable history, the selection process includes a fair assessment and a risk management approach. Collection of personal information is handled per our privacy and confidentiality policies.
Development Opportunities with this role:
- Opportunities to develop skills and build experience in volunteer administration and engagement, use of systems and software, as well as reporting
- Access to a range of training opportunities and insight to the work of a large not-for-profit religious organisation with expressions in many different areas of society
Important Note - Volunteers must be 15 years of age and older
- The Salvation Army is a child safe organisation and is committed to protecting children and young people from harm.
