**The Opportunity**
In the role of Native Title Engagement Officer, you will have responsibility for supporting the delivery of a range of services including governance assistance to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Corporations registered under the CATSI Act, in particular Prescribed Bodies Corporate (PBCs) and Registered Native Title Bodies Corporate (RNTBCs).
The role will include:
- communicating with Corporations, assisting in the management of disputes and complaints, supporting activities such as registration of PBCs, reporting and rule book compliance
- working across teams and assist in preparing regulatory and compliance processes including communications, compliance and other notices
- engaging in activities and assisting other staff to ensure Corporations are compliant with the requirements of the CATSI Act and the Native Title Legislation
- ensuring timely and quality responses to inquiries and complaints, using ORIC’s business systems and processes
- provide information to Indigenous Corporations, their members and Common Law holders regarding matters under the CATSI Act and Native Title legislation, working with the Senior Native Title Engagement Officer on complex matters
- understanding the CATSI Act and Native Title legislation to assist in ensuring corporations are complying with the legislations, policy, and regulatory frameworks
- assisting in the delivery of specialist training to assist Indigenous Corporations with targeted governance and Native Title issues
- facilitate or observe meetings, representing ORIC in external forums and promoting the role of the Registrar and the benefits of the CATSI Act
- identifying opportunities to build PBC capability with skills and processes for managing future disputes and maximising positive outcomes in the sector
- working collaboratively, forming positive relationships with key stakeholders, communities and corporations to identify the needs and strategies for improving the governance, compliance and sustainability of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander corporations.
In addition, you will also support the legal and native title team generally, attending conferences, meetings and forums. Having experience and/or qualifications in native title and alternative dispute resolution would be advantageous.

- able to quickly develop knowledge and understanding of the Corporations (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) Act 2006 (CATSI Act)

Must be willing to travel which includes remote and regional areas.
You will understand the issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and be able to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples and a wide variety of individuals in a range of contexts.

This position is required to liaise with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, communities and service providers. You will require cultural competency, including:
- understanding of the matters impacting Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples.
- demonstrated ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples.
- demonstrated capability and commitment to continue to develop cultural competency.
