**Eligibility**

**Division Responsibilities**

The Legal and Assurance Division includes the Department of Health’s internal legal practice

and delivers legal, risk and assurance services across the wide spectrum of the department’s

activities. Legal and Assurance Division comprises the following Branches:

- Advice and Legislation Branch
- Corporate Assurance Branch
- Corporate, Commercial and Litigation Branch

**Branch Responsibilities**

The Branch provides professional business and integrity assurance services to the Executive

and is responsible for shaping departmental corporate and business planning approaches. It

also supports the department by developing and enhancing its risk management

framework, delivering value-add internal audit services, providing strong fraud and

corruption control, and through our liaison with the Commonwealth Ombudsman and

Australian National Audit Office.

**Section Responsibilities**

The Section is responsible for providing both guidance and oversight across the

Departments commitments and risk management activities. As a trusted advisor across the

department, the section is responsible for engaging with stakeholders at all levels,

particularly senior executives, to provide advice, guidance and support in ensuring delivery

against outcomes. Key functions of the section include:

- Commitment tracking and analysis
- Enterprise Risk Management support and partnering
- Business Planning
- Governance support and secretariat***

**Key Responsibilities**
- Drive departmental maturity uplift in key assurance and governance capabilities

including risk management, business planning, and overall governance arrangements***
- Provide evidence-based analysis of emerging issues for Senior Executive briefings
- Maintain productive working relationships with business areas within the

department to coordinate the various project or program management activities and

support areas to develop project improvement plans or program assurance plans to

assist in improving project or program results/outcomes.
- Work closely with senior executives across the department in driving a positive and

engaged assurance culture at all levels
- Work collaboratively with specialist service providers, including contractors and

consultants. Monitor and manage budgets and expenditure relating to these

activities. Provide Secretariat support where required.***

**Key Capabilities**
- Well developed analytical and conceptual skills, including the ability to analyse

information and develop insightful solutions, actively identify and manage issues,

and understand departmental and customer requirements to formulate and

implement operational plans.
- Strong communication skills and highly adept at effectively engaging and

collaborating with peers and stakeholders.
- Excellent judgement with the ability to take responsibility for decisions, manage

escalated matters and manage a varied workload within given timeframes.
- Ability to foster a collaborative and productive working environment both within the

immediate team and across the Branch.
