Your new role
This is a newly created role. As the Policy Analyst role you will contribute to the organisation's understanding of relevant external policy areas and help develop positions on key energy reform processes. The role will help influence the development of energy policy during a period of significant change and uncertainty, in order to achieve their strategic objectives and its corporate purpose and vision.
- Designing and maintaining a research and monitoring capability to enable the organisation to identify and form positions on key policy and regulatory processes critical to execution of their strategy.
- Reviewing, and identifying emerging trends in, regulatory decisions across Australia and the world.
- Working together with the Policy Manager to prepare submissions, briefing notes, and executive committee/board papers recommending policy positions on key policy issues, with particular emphasis on decarbonisation, electricity market reform, and new energy technologies such as renewable fuels.
- Establishing relationships with key stakeholder groups to help assess the implications of current and potential policy processes and advocate for the organisation's policy positions.
- Representing at workshops and other industry functions.
What you'll need to succeed
- Tertiary qualifications in public policy, law, economics or business are highly desirable
- A minimum of five years' experience working for a regulated utility or in a government policy or regulatory environment
- Energy sector experience desirable but not essential
- High level written and oral communication skills
- The ability to analyse complex problems and develop policy solutions
- Attention to detail and the ability to undertake research, analyse data and produce succinct written reports
- Strong relationship building skills and the ability to deal with executives, senior managers and external stakeholders
- Understanding of the workings of government and policy development ie energy
- The ability to work independently in a dynamic, small team environment
- Knowledge of, or the ability to quickly acquire knowledge of, regulatory frameworks, is highly desirable
