APS5 Policy Analysts

Financial System Division (FSD) and Digital Policy and Corporations Division (DPCD) are looking for talented, team-oriented, flexible and highly motivated individuals to work at the centre of Australian government policy thinking on policy related to the financial system and services, corporations, data and digital issues. This is a unique opportunity to play a key role in shaping policy advice and assisting in the implementation of Australian Government reforms.
APS5 Policy Analysts work in a team structure and report to a Director. They have a range of responsibilities that may include, but are not limited to:
- Conducting research and analysis and providing advice to Treasury Ministers on matters relevant to the work of a unit or project team.
- Assisting in the preparation of reports, briefings to Treasury Ministers, submissions to Cabinet, speeches, replies to parliamentary questions and other correspondence.
- Implementing reforms, including through drafting consultation papers, undertaking regulatory assessments, and assisting with Treasury's Law Design Division to develop draft legislation.
- Engaging with internal and external stakeholders, including regulators, advocacy groups, corporations, and industry associations.
- Undertaking other duties as required.
In performing their roles, APS5 Policy Analysts are expected to be able to:
- Think critically: assess the implications of economic and policy developments and develop insights as a basis for policy advice.
- Engage effectively: build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including regulators, advocacy groups and industry.
- Navigate strategic context: understand the policy landscape, identify opportunities and show good judgement.
- Deliver results: deliver timely and high-quality outcomes that influence policy makers.
- Show leadership: be proactive, innovative and inclusive.
Desirable Qualifications / Experience
- Minimum two years' experience in policy development, program and grant administration, legislative development or regulation.
- Tertiary qualification(s) in a relevant field, including, but not limited to, economics, law, commerce, finance, public policy, digital policy and/or mathematics.
- Knowledge of key financial service industries, such as the banking, financial advice and fintech sectors would also be well regarded.
Experience in or knowledge of one or more of the following fields is desirable:
- Financial sector policy and/or programs, including redress schemes.
- Data and digital policy.
- Financial market, financial advice, digital asset or payments regulatory frameworks.
