Markets Group has strong relationships with business and consumer advocacy groups and maintains close working relations with the relevant regulatory agencies.

Positions are available in Financial System Division, Market Conduct Division and Digital, Competition and Payments Division.

**Financial System Division**

The Financial System Division is responsible for policy advice to Government on financial sector policy matters (other than superannuation) and assisting with the development of related legislation. This includes banking and insurance, access to finance, capital markets and financial market infrastructure, and brokers, advisers and other intermediaries. It also coordinates Treasury’s activities in respect of the Council of Financial Regulators.

**Market Conduct Division**

The Market Conduct Division provides advice on economy-wide policy settings that affect the way markets operate - with a focus on the Corporations Act and Australian Consumer Law. The policy responsibilities in the division cover: corporate behaviour, governance and transparency; consumer protection and combating scams.

**Digital, Competition and Payments Division**

The Digital, Competition and Payments Division is responsible for providing advice on the operation of a strong data and digital economy, including fair competition and innovation and safeguards for consumers. Policy responsibilities in the division include payments, digital assets, digital platforms, and maintaining the Consumer Data Right.

**About the Role**

In performing their roles, policy analysts are expected to be able to:

- **Think critically**: assess the implications of economic and policy developments and develop insights as a basis for policy advice
- **Engage effectively**: build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including regulators, advocacy groups and industry
- **Navigate strategic context**:understand the policy landscape, identify opportunities and show good judgement
- **Deliver results**:deliver timely and high-quality outcomes that influence policy makers, such as preparing briefing to ministers, senior officials, and legislative drafters as well as developing consultation papers
- **Show leadership**: be proactive, innovative and inclusive.

**Desirable Qualifications / Experience**
- one year for APS4 roles
- two years for APS5 roles
- three years for APS6 roles
- Relevant tertiary qualification(s) in a relevant field, including, but not limited to, economics, law, commerce, finance, public policy, digital policy and/or mathematics.
- Experience in policy development and analysis, legislative development or in regulatory work is highly desirable.
- Some experience in one or more of the following will also be very well regarded:

- Financial markets and payment systems
- Corporations and competition and consumer law
- Digital and data regulatory frameworks or issues
