**Position Information**:
Sydney Distance Education High School has an enrolment of around 1480 students, including 88 Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students, with a fulltime equivalent of 153.1 teachers and 23.3 administrative and support staff. Committed to excellence and equity in distance education, we are the largest school provider of flexible blended learning programs in NSW, serving students from areas north of Shellharbour, south of Newcastle, and west to Lithgow in the Blue Mountains. Located close to the central business district of Sydney, we work on the land of the Traditional Custodians, the Gadigal People of Eora Nation. Strategic Improvement Plan priorities include Student growth and attainment with a focus on data driven targeted support to increase academic achievement of students; Teaching excellence with a focus on developing and embedding a range of approaches to provide students more opportunities for success; and Inclusive, supported and positive school community to build wellbeing, inclusivity and connection to the school and within the community. All members of our staff play pivotal roles and are committed to the success of our Strategic Improvement Plan.

Students who meet specific enrolment requirements attend our school because they are not able to attend another school on a fulltime basis. Our students include those with a wide variety of additional learning and support needs including medical and mental health issues as well as vocationally talented students. We also teach both public and private school students studying single courses which they are not able to access at their home schools.

**Selection Criteria**:
Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria, approval to teach personal development, health and physical education Years 7-12, evidence of successful leadership to support, supervise and lead the personal development, health and physical education team to improve student learning outcomes and student engagement, demonstrated ability to integrate digital and information and communication technologies into teaching and learning programs to increase the confidence and capacity of staff to design and develop online learning activities, including the new Australian Curriculum, and to support staff in teaching effectively using online delivery, demonstrated capacity to lead teaching and learning, use evidence and data analysis to work collaboratively as part of the school executive team to drive quality teaching and learning initiatives related to the school’s Strategic Improvement Plan, demonstrated capacity to work collaboratively as a member of the School Executive and Strategic Improvement Team, building inclusive teams across the school and contributing to improved student wellbeing and academic outcomes and outstanding interpersonal skills with the ability to build the capacity of staff to enhance the engagement and wellbeing of students whilst maintaining a culture of high expectations.

**General Selection Criteria**:
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice

2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs

3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams

4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents

5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning

6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policies
