**The Role**
Communications Electronic Warfare group is looking for an applied specialist to improve Defence’s understanding of RF communications-based systems and to implement EW effects against these systems.
Duties include:
- Conduct exploitation of radio-frequency communications electronics and software/firmware.
- Develop software or firmware for implementing EW effects.
- Collaborate with industry and partner research groups to transition technology developed in DSTG into Defence capability.
- Manage and operate research infrastructure, including an RF laboratory, its equipment and ICT.
- Communicate S&T outcomes and deliverables in both written and verbal format.

Information Sciences division drives and shapes Defence research capabilities in the areas of computational science, autonomy and cyber, communications and computing.
The division focuses on the following areas:
Contested communication
- Cyber and signals intelligence
- Cyberwarfare operations
- Intelligence analysis
- Information interoperability
Contested Communications is a Major Science & Technology Capability (MSTC) within ISD.
Contested Communications MSTC’s mission is to develop survivable tactical communications and electronic warfare solutions for contested and degraded cyber electromagnetic environments.
Communications Electronic Warfare (CEW) Group within CC MSTC researches, develops, verifies, and facilitates the transition of advanced wireless communications Electronic Warfare techniques to Australian Defence and National Security operational capability. The group maintains scientific leadership in CEW Electronic Attack and Electronic Support related disciplines through long-term research, support to operations, capability development, and provision of expert advice.
- Experienced in developing communications EW knowledge, and in appropriately communicating that knowledge to stakeholders
- Demonstrated experience in electronic and software/firmware design from conception to delivery
- Very experienced in a technical sense, requires little guidance during the performance of tasks, and exercises significant initiative and judgement in carrying out their work.
- Will work closely with Defence stakeholders to identify key requirements and collaborate with industry and academia to achieve outcomes.
