**The Role**
We are looking for people with strong science research experience, who understand the unique scientific, technical and engineering challenges associated with Defence use of Sensor and Communication Systems.

There are three positions available:

- Discipline Leader Rapid RF Combat
- Discipline Leader Distributed Communications and Effects
- Distributed EW and Communications S&T Specialist

The right people for these roles will show drive and enthusiasm towards achieving the best outcomes for Defence from developing technologies for rapid transition to capability, the expertise to inform and shape customer requirements and the agility to respond to the changing context and shifting priorities of the customers while managing their expectations.

They will establish collaborative opportunities with Australia’s leading scientists within the Science & Technology Enterprise on priority science areas for Defence, building and sustaining effective relationships with a network of internal and external partners across academia, industry and Government.

Duties of this role include:

- Generating new knowledge to produce enhanced capability for clients and sponsors related to Sensor and Communications Systems capability;
- Managing and maintaining currency in the Science and Technology disciplines related to Sensor and Communications Systems capability;
- Implementing scientific methodologies to solve highly complex problems such as experimentation, modelling, field exercises and data analysis; and
- Managing stakeholder relationships, leading the development of initiatives including the provision of high-level technical and administrative advice within one or more scientific fields within Defence.

In addition, the Discipline Leaders will provide leadership and direction to research and technology teams that contribute to the development of science and technology in a nominated discipline to high international standards.

**About our Team**
Information Sciences division drives and shapes Defence research capabilities in the areas of computational science, autonomy and cyber, communications and computing focusing on the following areas:

- Contested communication
- Cyber and signals intelligence
- Cyberwarfare operations
- Intelligence analysis
- Information interoperability

Infrastructure/Capabilities:

- Sophisticated modelling and simulation environments
- Dynamic autonomous UAV/UGV platforms
- Distributed EW testbeds
- Planning optimisation tools for tactical radio networks and electromagnetic spectrum operations
- Command and Control tools for EW/Spectrum Situation Awareness, coordination of effects and dynamic spectrum management

- An understanding of the unique scientific, technical and engineering challenges associated with Defence use of Sensor and Communication Systems;
- A strategic mind-set with the ability to contextualise Defence and whole-of-government strategy and inspire a sense of purpose and direction by aligning the work program with stakeholder needs and priorities;
- A strong background in leading and/or contributing to highly complex, multi-disciplinary research programs;
- Demonstrated experience in leading and/or managing multi-disciplinary research and/or engineering teams at the working level;
- Excellent communication skills with a track record of engaging and influencing a large range of partners and stakeholders at all levels;
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships across multidisciplinary teams and with a wide variety of partners, clients and stakeholders;
- The agility to respond to the changing context and shifting priorities of the customer while proactively managing their expectations.
