**The Role**
The Discipline Lead, Research Data and Information, under broad direction from the Group Leader, Digital Science Delivery, is responsible for the delivery of specialist research data and information capabilities, tools and resources.

The Discipline Lead, Research Data and Information will collaborate across the Digital Science and Scientific Computing Branches of the Research Technology and Operations Division, other DSTG Divisions, wider Defence, relevant external professional groups, vendors and other stakeholders to ensure that the DSTG research information environment is a significant enabler of S&T discovery. Broad areas of responsibility include research data planning and management; selection, access and discovery of scholarly information resources; access and discovery of DSTG S&T publications and records management coordination.

As a member of the Digital Science Scientific Computing (DSSC) leadership team, the Discipline Lead, Research Data and Information is also expected to contribute to the ongoing development and evolution of DSSC capabilities and culture.

Duties include:

- Oversee innovation, development and delivery of capabilities to ensure high level integration, consistency and usability of DSTG research data and information tools.
- Oversee innovation, development and delivery of researcher-facing capabilities to uplift research data and information literacy.
- Manage the Research Data and Information team, functions and budget.
- Engage with Defence-wide Data initiatives and represent DSTG as required.
- Lead sharing, where possible, of DSTG innovation and discovery in research data and information management in both academic/research and professional/technical outlets (e.g. peer reviewed conference papers or journal articles).
- Engage and collaborate with peers in related Publicly Funded Research Agencies.
- Contribute to the ongoing development and evolution of DSSC capabilities and culture.

**About our Team**
The Research Data and Information (RDI) directorate supports DSTG by managing DSTG research data and information as a strategic asset, enabling it to be discoverable, reproducible and reusable. Importantly, RDI aims to provide services aligned with Defence’s S&T research and development needs, working collaboratively with researchers and using technology to enable these services.

RDI delivers guidance and services in the following areas:

- Research data management advice and planning support.
- Research information services (literature searches, print resource management, records management coordination, document delivery).
- Scalable training offerings (online inductions and tailored training for researchers).
- Research collaboration and benchmarking analytics.
- A research partnering team - our Research Data and Information Analysts.

We are seeking a leader who has demonstrated capabilities in persuasive written and verbal communication, collaboration, boundary spanning and strategic thinking. Post graduate qualifications in information or data management or computer science will be highly desirable.
