About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Underwriter to join our International Financial Lines team, focusing on Management Liability and Professional Indemnity insurance products.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver a profitable underwriting service to clients, including underwriting business within agreed business plans and individual authorities.
  • Support business reporting, planning, and forecasting processes, monitoring premium income and insured exposure.
  • Maintain awareness of all claims advised and provide input on settlement of claims.
  • Build and maintain relationships with brokers and clients, supporting the design and structure of risks.
  • Review complex submissions, including applications, policy wordings, loss runs, and financial reports, to determine degree of risk and compliance with underwriting appetite.
  • Calculate appropriate risk premium and determine policy terms and conditions in accordance with designated underwriting tools, rules, and guidelines.
  • Proactively advise and assist brokers and clients on insurance and risk management matters to ensure satisfaction and fulfillment of their insurance requirements.
  • Monitor underwriting and financial metrics for the portfolio to ensure contribution to business unit profitability.
  • Support the business reporting, planning, and forecasting processes.
  • Work collaboratively in a team environment, assisting underwriters, underwriting assistants, claims colleagues, and management team.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred and proven underwriting experience in relevant classes of business.
  • Ability to perform tasks according to established procedures and exercise discretion.
  • Use judgment to identify and solve day-to-day problems in straightforward situations.
  • Marketing skills, including planning for sales and business development, integrating various techniques, tools, and information to support profitable business growth.
  • Negotiation and sales skills, including planning, structuring, and conducting negotiations with brokers and clients to reach outcomes that gain support and acceptance from all parties.
  • Analytical skills, including visualizing, gathering information, articulating, analyzing, and solving complex problems to make key business decisions.
  • Interpersonal skills, including building excellent relationships with brokers, clients, and colleagues to improve personal profile and reputation within AXA XL and the broader market.
  • Strategy and planning skills, including making underwriting decisions to fulfill business strategic plans and deliver results, with knowledge of financial targets and levers to deliver on departmental business plans.
  • Industry knowledge, including understanding of the insurance industry and specific product portfolios to positively impact the underwriting business by improving personal technical and functional knowledge.
