Financial Lines Underwriting Specialist

AXA XL is seeking a skilled Underwriter to enhance our International Financial Lines division, concentrating on our diverse portfolio of Management Liability and Professional Indemnity insurance offerings.

Your role will involve delivering a profitable underwriting service to clients. Key responsibilities include: evaluating business within the established business plan and personal authority; aiding in business reporting, planning, and forecasting; overseeing premium income and insured exposure; staying informed about all reported claims while contributing to their resolution; and fostering strong relationships with brokers and clients while supporting risk design and structuring.

YOUR essential responsibilities will encompass:

Analyzing intricate submissions such as applications, policy documents, loss histories, and financial statements while conducting thorough research to assess risk levels for each account and ensure alignment with AXA XL's underwriting standards. Determining suitable risk premiums and establishing appropriate policy terms and conditions in line with designated underwriting tools, rules, and guidelines. Actively advising, assisting, and following up with brokers and/or clients on insurance and risk management issues to guarantee satisfaction and meet their insurance needs. Managing relationships effectively to create opportunities for cross-selling additional products and ensuring client retention. Monitoring underwriting and financial metrics for your portfolio to contribute to the profitability of the business unit. Supporting the business reporting, planning, and forecasting initiatives. Keeping abreast of all reported claims while contributing to their resolution as necessary. Collaborating within a team environment, assisting underwriters, underwriting assistants, claims colleagues, and management.

You will report to the designated Underwriting Manager.

REQUIRED skills and qualifications:

A Bachelor's Degree is preferred along with proven underwriting experience in relevant business sectors. Ability to perform tasks according to established procedures while exercising discretion. Use judgment to identify and resolve everyday issues in straightforward scenarios. Marketing - Strategically plan for sales and business development, utilizing various techniques, tools, and information to support profitable growth over a specified timeframe. Negotiation/Sales - Organize, structure, and conduct negotiations with brokers and/or clients to achieve outcomes that gain the support and acceptance of all parties involved. Analytical Skills – Ability to visualize, gather information, articulate, analyze, and resolve complex issues to make informed business decisions. Interpersonal Savvy – Develop strong interpersonal relationships with brokers, clients, and colleagues to enhance personal profile and reputation within AXA XL and the broader market. Strategy and Planning - Make underwriting decisions that align with the business strategic plan and deliver results, with an understanding of financial targets and levers to achieve departmental objectives. Industry Knowledge - Possess a solid understanding of the insurance sector and specific product lines to positively influence the underwriting business by enhancing personal technical and functional expertise.
