XL CATLIN is seeking a seasoned Underwriter to enhance our International Financial Lines division, concentrating on our suite of Management Liability and Professional Indemnity insurance offerings.

Your primary responsibility will be to provide a profitable underwriting service to our clientele. Key responsibilities encompass:

  • Evaluating intricate submissions, including applications, policy documents, loss histories, and financial statements while conducting thorough research to assess the risk level for each account and ensure alignment with XL CATLIN's underwriting criteria.
  • Determining suitable risk premiums and establishing appropriate policy terms and conditions in line with designated underwriting frameworks, regulations, and guidelines.
  • Proactively engaging with brokers and clients regarding insurance and risk management issues to guarantee satisfaction and meet their insurance needs.
  • Fostering effective relationship management to create opportunities for cross-selling available products and ensuring client retention.
  • Monitoring underwriting and financial performance metrics for your portfolio to contribute to the profitability of the business unit.
  • Assisting in the business reporting, planning, and forecasting activities.
  • Maintaining awareness of all reported claims while providing support and input on claim settlements as necessary.
  • Collaborating within a team environment, aiding underwriters, underwriting assistants, claims personnel, and management.

Essential Qualifications and Skills:

  • A Bachelor's Degree is preferred along with demonstrable underwriting experience in relevant business sectors.
  • Ability to perform tasks in accordance with established protocols while exercising discretion.
  • Utilize judgment to identify and resolve everyday challenges in straightforward scenarios.
  • Marketing Acumen - Strategically plan for sales and business development, integrating various techniques and tools to support profitable growth over a specified timeframe.
  • Negotiation Skills - Structure and conduct negotiations with brokers and clients to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes.
  • Analytical Proficiency – Ability to visualize, gather information, articulate, analyze, and resolve complex issues to inform critical business decisions.
  • Interpersonal Skills – Cultivate strong relationships with brokers, clients, and colleagues to enhance personal profile and reputation within XL CATLIN and the wider market.
  • Strategic Planning - Make informed underwriting decisions that align with the business's strategic objectives and deliver results, possessing knowledge of financial targets and levers to achieve departmental goals.
  • Industry Insight - A solid understanding of the insurance sector and specific product lines to positively influence the underwriting process by enhancing personal technical and functional expertise.
