JOB OVERVIEW

Position: Financial Lines Underwriter

Location: Sydney, NSW

This role is subject to the Central Bank of Ireland's Fitness and Probity regulations.

AXA XL seeks a skilled Underwriter to enhance our International Financial Lines division, concentrating on Management Liability and Professional Indemnity insurance offerings.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assessing intricate submissions, including applications, policy documents, loss histories, and financial statements, while performing necessary research to evaluate risk levels and adherence to AXA XL's underwriting standards.
  • Determining suitable risk premiums and establishing appropriate policy terms and conditions in line with established underwriting guidelines.
  • Proactively engaging with brokers and clients regarding insurance and risk management to ensure their needs are met effectively.
  • Fostering strong relationships to identify cross-selling opportunities and ensure client retention.
  • Monitoring underwriting and financial performance metrics to contribute to the profitability of the business unit.
  • Assisting in business reporting, planning, and forecasting activities.
  • Maintaining awareness of all reported claims and providing input on claim settlements as necessary.
  • Collaborating within a team environment, supporting underwriters, underwriting assistants, claims colleagues, and management.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Preferred Bachelor's Degree with demonstrated underwriting experience in relevant business sectors.
  • Ability to follow established procedures while exercising discretion in decision-making.
  • Capable of identifying and resolving routine issues using sound judgment.
  • Marketing acumen to effectively strategize for sales and business development, leveraging various techniques and tools for profitable growth.
  • Negotiation skills to structure and conduct discussions with brokers and clients to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes.
  • Strong analytical capabilities to visualize, gather, and interpret information, enabling informed business decisions.
  • Interpersonal skills to cultivate excellent relationships with brokers, clients, and colleagues, enhancing personal reputation within AXA XL and the industry.
  • Strategic mindset to make underwriting decisions aligned with business objectives and financial targets.
  • Industry knowledge to enhance underwriting practices through improved technical and functional expertise.
