Assistant Director

The APS is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Assistant Director to lead our Cost Estimation and Assurance team. As a key member of our organization, you will be responsible for providing strategic and technical costing advice to support the development of accurate and fit-for-purpose cost estimates.
Key Responsibilities- Lead a team of cost estimators to develop life cycle cost estimates for various projects;
- Supervise staff to extract relevant cost data from tender submissions;
- Liaise with project managers, schedulers, and risk managers to understand cost implications of schedule, uncertainty, and risk;
- Present cost models to senior leaders and stakeholders, including capability gate review and investment committee decisions;
- Liaise with financial and portfolio stakeholders to convey high-level summaries of estimates.
- Background in accounting and finance or a STEM field;
- Experience in projects, cost assurance, estimation, and project finance;
- Ability to lead a team through change and work with projects of differing complexity and scope;
- Excellent stakeholder management skills;
- Ability to analyze information, data, and synthesize findings to articulate to others.
The Capability Costing Branch works in partnership with the Defence community to drive better practice and transform capability costing. We are a professional and dynamic team that connects and supports a costing community by developing policy and technical solutions, providing strategic and technical costing advice, and building a sustainable costing workforce.
