We are seeking an experienced employment law professional to join our team as a Senior Associate, Workplace Relations & Safety. This is a key opportunity for a skilled lawyer to contribute to the success of our practice and work on complex employment law matters.
About the Role- This role involves providing strategic advice on employment and industrial relations disputes, preparing written advices on all employment law related issues and industrial relations matters, and appearing at conferences before relevant courts or tribunals.
- The successful candidate will have excellent critical thinking, problem-solving, and lateral reasoning skills, as well as expertise in drafting clear, concise legal documents.
- They will also be skilled at building trusted relationships with stakeholders and earning their confidence, with exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
- Providing strategic advice regarding employment and industrial relations disputes
- Preparing written advices regarding all employment law related issues and industrial relations matters
- Appearing at conferences before the relevant court or tribunal
- Researching case law and providing legal analysis
- Drafting court documents and settlement agreements
- Engaging barristers and investigators
- Instructing counsel and senior lawyers during court hearings, mediations and conferences
- Corresponding with opposing solicitors and self-represented applicants
- Liaising with witnesses and drafting statements and affidavits
- Delegating work and providing instructions to lawyers, paralegals and administrative support
- Mentoring and coaching lawyers to support their development
- Supporting graduates and seasonal clerks throughout their rotations
- Retaining and building client relationships and business, including by starting to manage certain client relationships
- Participating in individual and group-wide business development activities
- Tertiary qualification in Law and a current Practising Certificate for relevant jurisdiction
- Suitable candidates will bring 5-8 years PAE working principally in Employment Law preferably gained in a law practice
- Demonstrated ability in critical thinking, problem-solving, and lateral reasoning
- Skilled at building trusted relationships with stakeholders and earning their confidence
- Expertise in drafting clear, concise legal documents
- Efficient in managing files and billing, with strong organisational skills
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
- Outstanding negotiation and influencing abilities
- Experience facilitating presentations and meetings for diverse group sizes
- Proactive mindset, willing to challenge the status quo and propose practical solutions
- Motivated to learn and grow new skills
- Highly organised, with proven ability to plan and prioritise workload to meet deadlines
- Commitment to identifying risks and adhering to established risk management protocols
- Sound judgement in problem resolution and discernment on when to escalate issues
