Aboriginal Gambling Harm Prevention Specialist

Job Summary:
This role is a key position in the prevention and reduction of harm associated with gambling among Aboriginal communities. The successful applicant will work collaboratively with other staff to design, deliver, and evaluate culturally tailored health promotional activities.
- The primary responsibility of this role is to engage with Aboriginal people across the Adelaide metropolitan area to prevent and reduce harm associated with gambling.
- Key responsibilities include designing and delivering culturally tailored health promotional activities, promoting help seeking within the Aboriginal community, conducting intake and holistic assessments of Aboriginal people requesting support, developing comprehensive care plans, providing case management support, networking with services providing culturally safe support, and providing information on how to reduce the negative impacts of gambling.
Requirements:
Skills and Qualifications:
- A post-school qualification in health, social welfare, community development, media or education would be highly regarded, but not essential if the applicant has extensive experience in these areas.
- Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people.
- Demonstrated understanding of the barriers to accessing health services that are common among Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people.
- Demonstrated sensitivity towards the needs of disadvantaged or vulnerable people and groups.
- Demonstrated oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with colleagues, health and welfare providers.
Other Requirements:
- A current driver's license is required.
- A National Police Certificate will be required before commencing in this position.
- Maintenance of a current Child Related Employment Screening in accordance with the Child Safety (Prohibited Persons) Act 2016 (SA).
