Job Title

The Supply Chain Operations Section is a critical component of the branch's logistics arms, responsible for planning, coordinating, managing, and delivering cargo and supply chain services in support of seasonal operations in Antarctica, the sub-Antarctic, and the Southern Ocean.

The role of Customs Officer is based at Macquarie Wharf 2, Hobart, with responsibilities including:

  • Preparing and submitting documentation for the import and export of cargo within the Australian Antarctic Program, using electronic cargo management systems.
  • Coordinating with customs and biosecurity personnel to ensure compliance with government regulations.
  • Maintaining records related to Customs Bond Stores and Biosecurity Approved Facilities.
  • Providing quality assurance for declarations on the movement of hazardous materials by road, sea, or air transport.
  • Offering guidance to program participants on customs and biosecurity requirements, including special permits and other relevant matters.
  • Assisting in the coordination of cargo packing, processing, and dispatch by intermodal transport.
  • Supervising personnel and activities for facility preparation, plant maintenance, and equipment setup prior to seasonal operations.
  • Promoting a safe working environment at all cargo handling and warehousing facilities.
  • Supporting the implementation of best-practice biosecurity procedures.
