Housing/Shelter Support Worker
Job Description:Our organization is seeking a skilled Housing/Shelter Support Worker to join our team. This role will involve providing direct support to clients, identifying problems, needs and risks, and planning and conducting individual counselling sessions.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in social work, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities include:
- Assisting with all aspects of resident support plan development and delivery of services;
- Developing rapport and trusting relationships with residents;
- Performing wellness checks;
- Participating in the set-up of shelter upon arrival and clean up before end of shift;
- Distributing harm reduction supplies, personal hygiene supplies, cleaning supplies, meals, etc. to residents;
- Assisting residents with activities such as room cleans; clean out vacant rooms;
- Assisting with appropriate applications and referrals;
- Developing and implementing short-term, issue specific intervention plans within program guidelines;
- Evaluating the effectiveness of the intervention plan, reporting on clients' progress, and discussing related concerns with Supervisor;
- Gathering information relevant to the client's problems, needs and risks by interviewing, observing behavior, meeting with any other service providers, and using various inventories, checklists, and questionnaires;
- Planning, prepares, and conducts basic individual counselling session using techniques such as active listening, conflict resolution, basic psycho-educational group methods to resolve identified problems, needs and risks;
- Maintaining an active file for each assigned resident; this includes electronic log notes for all pertinent interactions and observation.
This role requires strong problem-solving, decision-making, communication, and collaboration skills, as well as the ability to work independently and show initiative and creativity.
The successful candidate will be able to lift up to 30 lbs, navigate stairs, and be on feet for up to 6 hours of shift.
Salary: $31.56 - $33.49 per hour
Benefits: Vacation is accrued at a rate of 6% or in accordance with your length of service as per the collective agreement. Comprehensive benefits plan, including health and dental coverage, after completion of probationary period.
This position requires union membership.
