Job Description

As a Property Claims Examiner, you will be responsible for managing a portfolio of property claims and analysing first reports to determine the nature of loss, coverage provided and scope of damage.

The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication and analytical skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team. You will be required to assess claims in accordance with our service level and quality requirements, determining coverage, reserving within timeframes, making payments and responding to customer queries.

  • Manage a portfolio of claims for property damage, analyse first reports to determine nature of loss, coverage provided and scope of damage
  • Assess claims in accordance with our service level and quality requirements
  • Communicate by telephone and written correspondence to brokers, claimants and others as required
  • Promptly document all developments on claim workstation file
  • Participate in Claim Department and companywide training as required
  • Seek technical assistance in handling claims exceeding delegated authority
  • Respond to enquiries and escalations of matters from underwriters, brokers and customers, working with underwriters, the Compliance Department and other departments as needed
  • Exercise good judgement in reaching final disposition of claim by evaluating nature of loss, liability, damage, coverage provided and applicable limits
  • Negotiate compromise settlements where appropriate
  • Participate in claims meetings with internal and external stakeholders as required
  • Effectively control use, work product and expense of outside vendors
  • Monitor performance and processes of service providers to make recommendations in respect of process and contract compliance, escalating breaches to Claims Management
  • Assist in daily payment, audit, and other administrative tasks as required
  • Provide general assistance within the Claims Department and adopt duties in response to altered business needs and staff changes
