About the Role


We are seeking a skilled Strategic Pathology Operations Manager to join our team at St. Vincent's Hospital in Melbourne.


This is a permanent, full-time position offering a competitive salary of AU$120,000 per annum, inclusive of overaward payment (negotiable based on experience). The role will be based in Fitzroy, with regular opportunities for professional development and a culture of continuous improvement.



Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the financial operations of Pathology, including overseeing the billing/debtors team and ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of revenue data for Medicare, interhospital, clinical trial, and research billing.
  • Develop and maintain robust financial systems and processes that provide reliable financial performance data and ensure compliance with relevant legislation, accounting practices, and St Vincent's policies.
  • Take a lead role in the development of the St Vincent's Pathology budget, set financial targets, and develop key performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor departmental performance.
  • Advise on remedial actions in the event of budget variances.
  • Develop tender documents, business cases, and market feedback reports as required to support project proposals.

About You


To be successful in this role, you will require:



  • A relevant qualification in business or accounting.
  • Experience and knowledge of public health funding and pathology billing.
  • The ability to initiate and maintain stakeholder relationships to advance clinical, business, and strategic goals.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform business analytics and prepare concise reports.
  • Significant strategic business and financial acumen with demonstrated ability to produce, review, and update cost-effective budgets and re-forecasts with full rationale.
  • A current National criminal history check, or willingness to obtain one.
