About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Chief Microbiology Scientist to lead our laboratory department and foster a collaborative environment that drives high performance and innovation.
The successful candidate will oversee departmental testing and operations, manage the development and validation of protocols, ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the annual operating plan and financial budgets for the department.
- Monitor and report on monthly financial KPIs.
- Prepare and submit recommendations for capital expenditure.
- Oversight of departmental testing, development, and validation of methods.
- Maintain current scientific knowledge via appropriate resources.
- Ensure all work practices and procedures comply with NATA/TGA/NPACC and company policies.
- Drive quality and workflow improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate with HR to manage recruitment and selection processes.
- Develop and implement a detailed annual business plan for the department.
About You
To be considered for this position, you must meet the following essential requirements:
- Bachelor of Science or equivalent (AIMS Recognised).
- 6 years' experience as a senior scientist in a related field with exposure across pathology.
- Minimum 2 years in a senior supervisory role with management of rosters, KPIs, turnaround times, and performance management.
- Proven leadership skills with the ability to motivate and guide staff.
- Self-initiative and problem-solving capabilities.
- Ability to foster a collaborative environment that encourages teamwork and knowledge sharing.
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
Estimated Salary: $120,000 - $150,000 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience. We also offer a range of benefits, including corporate health insurance discounts, banking benefits, and novated leasing consultations.
