Job Description

We are seeking an experienced professional to lead our Aboriginal Research and Evaluation team. The successful candidate will possess extensive knowledge of Aboriginal cultures and societies, as well as expertise in research and evaluation of the Aboriginal Affairs portfolio.

The role is responsible for providing strategic advice to strengthen our Department in research, data sovereignty and evaluation of Aboriginal programs and service delivery. This includes working collaboratively with executives, managers and program areas across the state to ensure Aboriginal designed and delivered research, data and evaluation principles are embedded in Aboriginal program and service delivery.

The ideal candidate will be a reform-orientated leader who enjoys building relationships, sharing their culture, coaching, mentoring and proactively supporting change and new ways of working. They will also have excellent leadership, influence and negotiation skills, as well as strong written communication and strategic capability.

The successful candidate must demonstrate specialist Aboriginal cultural knowledge and understanding of historic and contemporary issues relating to Aboriginal Victorians. They will also need to submit proof of vaccination prior to commencement.

This is a Designated role - Only Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people are eligible to apply, as per the Special Measures provision in the Equal Opportunity Act 2010.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement research and evaluation strategies that align with the Department's goals and objectives.
  • Provide expert advice on Aboriginal cultures and societies, and recommend solutions to improve outcomes for Aboriginal Victorians.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders, including Aboriginal community groups and other government agencies.
  • Lead and manage a team of researchers and evaluators to conduct high-quality research and evaluation projects.
  • Develop and implement data sovereignty protocols to ensure the secure handling and storage of sensitive Aboriginal data.
