Transforming Lives through Support and Care

Canteen is dedicated to supporting young people and their families affected by cancer. Our mission is to provide essential programs, services, and resources that positively impact the lives of 12-25-year-olds facing their own diagnosis, dealing with a close family member's cancer, or grieving the loss of a loved one.

The Intake and Assessment Practitioner plays a crucial role in serving as the first point of contact for service users and referrers, conducting initial assessments, determining appropriate care pathways, and coordinating necessary interventions. With extensive knowledge of our services, the practitioner helps service users understand their needs and access the right support.

This role requires specialist knowledge and expertise in working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families, recognising and addressing their unique cultural, social, and emotional needs. The successful applicant will bring a deep respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural ways of knowing, being and doing, and an understanding of the need to prioritise Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander views of health and wellbeing.

About Our Team Culture

We foster a culture that values connection, empowerment, challenge, and authenticity. These core values ground the way we work at Canteen, bringing people together in an inspiring and positive way. Being part of our team offers a rewarding, purposeful, and genuine experience, with endless opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

Provide culturally appropriate intake and assessment via phone or Zoom, offering information about our services and tailored short-term supports with a priority focus on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, young people, and families.

Develop strong, respectful relationships with community, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community groups, to ensure young people and families access culturally informed support across the country.

Collaborate with our team and partners to ensure services reflect the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people and contribute to cultural responsiveness and safety.
