About the Role

The Australian Government Department of Defence is seeking a highly skilled Senior Operations Officer to join our team at Port Wakefield. This position involves collaboration with the Operations Manager and Range Trials Officers to enhance test capabilities, design test equipment, and interpret test standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement operational practices and procedures to ensure efficient and effective test operations;
  • Oversee the management of all resources essential for proof and environmental testing, including personnel, equipment, and facilities;
  • Provide technical operational advice to internal and external stakeholders, including government agencies and industry partners;
  • Aid in the development of techniques, procedures, and methodologies for proof and environmental testing, including trial procedures and plans for complex tests;
  • Contribute to the reporting and sustainability of projects, including the development of technical reports and presentations;
  • Prepare and deliver operational briefs, technical reports, submissions, and presentations as required;
  • Conduct audits and oversee employee training to ensure compliance with procedures and practices;
  • Lead staff meetings to address operational issues and explain procedural changes.

About Our Team

The Joint Proof and Experimental Unit Test Technical Officers work within the Joint Proof and Experimental Headquarters in support of guided weapon and explosive ordnance (GWEO) test. They support the Operations, Engineering, and Capability Teams covering a wide array of activities, including test equipment and specification design, investigating explosives ordnance failure modes, and creating test system delivery.

Our Ideal Candidate

This role is ideal for someone with strong technical, communication, and interpersonal skills, who is committed to achieving organisational goals and objectives. The ideal candidate will have knowledge and experience in operations and project management, technical design and delivery, covering a wide range of explosive test systems, including weapons, targets, and support systems. A knowledge of test design, explosive ordnance systems, and measurement practices would be beneficial.
