The Role
The Senior Operations Officer is a pivotal position within the Australian Government Department of Defence, focusing on enhancing operational capabilities and ensuring the effective management of resources for testing and evaluation. This role requires collaboration with various stakeholders to improve testing methodologies and equipment design.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement efficient operational practices and protocols;
- Manage essential resources for testing and evaluation processes;

- Assist in formulating techniques and methodologies for testing, including complex trial procedures;
- Contribute to project reporting and sustainability efforts;

- Facilitate team meetings to discuss operational challenges and procedural updates.
The operational teams within the Department of Defence are dedicated to supporting a wide range of testing activities related to guided weapon and explosive ordnance systems. These teams are integral to the design and delivery of testing equipment and specifications, as well as investigating failure modes in explosive ordnance.

They will have a solid background in operations and project management, particularly in the context of explosive testing systems, including weapons and support mechanisms. Familiarity with test design and measurement practices in the explosive ordnance domain is advantageous.
The successful candidate will be adaptable, taking the initiative to drive quality outcomes in operational and testing environments. They will be proactive in improving systems and processes, utilizing a variety of tools, including Microsoft Office and modeling applications, to enhance their work efficiency.
