The Role
The Senior Operations Officer is a pivotal position within the Australian Government Department of Defence, focusing on enhancing operational efficiency and effectiveness. This role requires close collaboration with the Operations Manager and Range Trials Officers to improve testing capabilities, design innovative testing equipment, and interpret relevant testing standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement operational practices and procedures to streamline processes;
- Manage resources critical for proof and environmental testing;
- Provide expert technical operational guidance to both internal and external stakeholders;
- Assist in formulating techniques, procedures, and methodologies for proof and environmental testing, including complex trial procedures and plans;
- Contribute to project reporting and sustainability efforts;
- Prepare and present operational briefs, technical reports, submissions, and presentations as necessary;
- Conduct audits and oversee training programs to ensure adherence to established procedures and practices;
- Facilitate staff meetings to discuss operational challenges and clarify procedural updates.
The Technical Officers within the Senior Operations team support guided weapon and explosive ordnance testing, engaging with Operations, Engineering, and Capability Teams across various activities.
Each team plays a vital role in supporting all operational activities within the testing units, including the design of test equipment and specifications, investigating failure modes of explosive ordnance, and creating effective test system delivery.
Our Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will possess strong technical, communication, and interpersonal skills, demonstrating a commitment to achieving organizational objectives.
Candidates should have experience in operations and project management, technical design, and delivery, particularly in the context of explosive test systems, including weapons, targets, and support systems. Familiarity with test design, explosive ordnance systems, and measurement practices is advantageous.
The successful candidate will be adaptable, taking the initiative to achieve high-quality operational and testing outcomes while supporting the management of operations and engineering systems. They will be proactive in seeking continuous improvement in systems and processes.
Proficiency in a variety of tools, including Microsoft Office applications, modeling software, and other IT systems, is essential for success in this role.
