Lead Consultant for Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Management

At Umwelt, we are seeking a seasoned expert to join our team of professionals dedicated to environmental and social impact assessments.
We are looking for a highly experienced Principal or Senior Aboriginal Heritage Consultant to lead our heritage team in Newcastle, NSW. This role offers the opportunity to oversee and deliver complex projects, provide strategic guidance, and ensure the quality of deliverables.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage project teams, coordinate fieldwork, and ensure timely delivery of high-quality results while maintaining budgets and meeting client expectations.
- Collaborate with clients to understand their needs, providing expert advice on heritage matters, and developing tailored solutions that meet regulatory requirements and best practices.
- Engage with stakeholders effectively, including internal teams, external partners, and community groups.
- Present technical findings and communicate complex information to non-technical individuals, including clients and community members.
- Stay up-to-date with relevant legislation, regulations, and guidelines, applying this knowledge to assess cultural significance, develop conservation strategies, and mitigate impacts on heritage values.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to junior staff, helping them develop skills and expertise in heritage management and consultancy.
Requirements:
- A degree in Cultural Heritage Management, Archaeology, Anthropology, or a related field.
- A minimum of 10+ years of experience for the Principal role and 5+ years for the Senior role.
- Preferably experience in a consultancy environment.
- Knowledge of relevant State and Commonwealth heritage legislation, regulations, and guidelines, with experience in NSW highly regarded.
- Demonstrate leadership experience, including project management and team coordination.
- Interest and experience with client relationship management.
- Australian Driver's license (ideally with 4WD experience).
