Job Overview

About the Position

Nbn co. manages a vast network that delivers wholesale services to various telecommunications providers. This network incorporates a variety of delivery methods and technologies, including FTTP, FTTB, FTTN, HFC, Copper Last Mile, Wireless, and Satellite. The Field Operations Team is responsible for customer service, service activation, network assurance, maintenance, modernization, and quality audits across all technologies. Field Engineers are essential in maintaining network integrity, making informed technical decisions, and guiding other Field Technicians.

Given the high demands of project work on our active network, our Field Engineers work on a 24/7 schedule, which may include frequent night shifts and participation in an on-call roster.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and execute equipment and system-level Service Assurance tasks in the field
  • Enhance the quality of ongoing network construction activities and investigate early fault occurrences
  • Deliver on-site, intricate, technical, and ad-hoc network support
  • Address technical escalations from Customer Field Technicians
  • Conduct end-user installation and assurance tasks
  • Support modifications or upgrades to network components
  • Exhibit proficiency in HFC outside plant construction and Network Remediation, including Network Assurance
  • Comprehend HFC testing principles, DOCSIS 3.1, and RF fundamentals
  • Execute routine maintenance and restoration tasks for HFC, including amplifier alignment and egress repairs
  • Provide assistance for modifications or upgrades to network components
  • Operate within the constraints of SLA, OLA, and CRQ timeframes
  • Possess knowledge of basic HFC design principles
  • Have a foundational understanding of fibre optics
  • Ensure network assurance from CMTS to CM
  • Identify and manage injury risks and environmental impacts effectively by applying the nbn HSE management system and adhering to legislative safety requirements.
  • Carry out tasks in line with safe work practices, ensuring personal accountability for safety.
  • Maintain current Safety training and accreditations as directed and within required timelines.
  • Acquire cross-skilling in other technologies to support future network expansion and evolution

About You

You will have a technical background, ideally with substantial network assurance experience in one or more nbn technologies such as HFC ISP, Ethernet, DWDM, GPON, or VDSL. Experience in outside plant construction across Fibre, HFC, or Copper network builds would be advantageous.

You are a natural problem solver with a systematic approach and a quick learning aptitude. Your flexibility, adaptability, and ability to manage conflicting priorities will contribute to your success in this role. Given the nature of this position, you will be a highly organized team player, capable of thriving in a dynamic and evolving work environment.
