Position Overview

About the Role

Nbn co. manages a comprehensive network that delivers wholesale services to a variety of service providers. This network employs multiple delivery methods and technologies, including FTTP, FTTB, FTTN, HFC, Copper Last Mile, Wireless, and Satellite. The Field Operations Team is responsible for customer service, service activation, network assurance, maintenance, modernization, and quality audits across all technologies. Field Engineers are essential in maintaining network quality, making informed technical decisions, and guiding other Field Technicians.

Given the demanding nature of our active network projects, Field Engineers work on a 24/7 roster, which may include frequent night shifts and participation in an on-call roster.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct and manage equipment and system-level Service Assurance activities in the field.
  • Enhance the quality of active network construction activities and investigate early fault occurrences.
  • Provide on-site, complex technical support and ad-hoc network assistance.
  • Address technical escalations from Customer Field Technicians.
  • Execute end-user installation and assurance tasks.
  • Support modifications or upgrades to network components.
  • Possess expertise in HFC outside plant construction and Network Remediation, including Network Assurance.
  • Understand HFC testing principles, DOCSIS 3.1, and RF fundamentals.
  • Perform routine maintenance and restoration tasks for HFC, including amplifier alignment and egress repairs.
  • Ensure compliance with SLA, OLA, and CRQ timeframes.
  • Have knowledge of basic HFC design principles.
  • Possess a foundational understanding of fibre optics.
  • Assure network integrity from CMTS to CM.
  • Identify and manage injury risks and environmental impacts by applying the nbn HSE management system and adhering to legislative safety requirements.
  • Execute tasks in accordance with safe work practices, taking personal responsibility for safety.
  • Maintain required safety training and accreditations as directed.
  • Cross-skill in other technologies to support future network expansion and evolution.

About You

The ideal candidate will have a technical background, preferably with strong network assurance experience in one or more nbn technologies such as HFC ISP, Ethernet, DWDM, GPON, or VDSL. Experience in outside plant construction across Fibre, HFC, or Copper networks is advantageous.

You will be a natural problem solver with a methodical approach and a quick learning aptitude. Your flexibility, adaptability, and ability to manage conflicting priorities will contribute to your success in this role. Given the nature of this position, you will be a highly organized team player, capable of thriving in a dynamic work environment.
