Job Overview

About the Position

Nbn co. manages a comprehensive network that delivers wholesale services to various service providers. This network employs a variety of delivery methods and technologies, including FTTP, FTTB, FTTN, HFC, Copper Last Mile, Wireless, and Satellite. The Field Operations Team is responsible for customer service, service activation, network assurance, maintenance, modernization, and quality audits across all technologies. Field Engineers are vital in maintaining network quality, making informed technical decisions, and mentoring fellow Field Technicians.

Due to the nature of ongoing project work on our active network, Field Engineers are required to operate on a 24/7 roster, which may include frequent night shifts and participation in an on-call roster.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and execute equipment and system-level Service Assurance activities in the field
  • Enhance the quality of Active network construction activities and investigate early-onset faults
  • Provide on-site, complex, technical, and ad-hoc network support
  • Address technical escalations from Customer Field Technicians
  • Conduct end-user installation and assurance activities
  • Support modifications or upgrades to network elements
  • Exhibit proficiency in HFC outside plant construction and Network Remediation, including Network Assurance
  • Comprehend HFC testing principles, DOCSIS 3.1, and RF fundamentals
  • Execute HFC routine maintenance and restoration tasks, including amplifier alignment and egress repairs
  • Provide assistance for changes or upgrades to network elements
  • Operate within the confines of SLA, OLA, and CRQ timeframes
  • Possess knowledge of basic HFC design principles
  • Have a foundational understanding of fibre optics
  • Ensure network assurance from CMTS to CM
  • Identify and manage injury risks and environmental impacts by applying the nbn HSE management system and adhering to legislative requirements.
  • Perform tasks in alignment with safe work practices, taking personal responsibility for safety.
  • Maintain required Safety training currency and accreditations as directed and within stipulated timeframes.
  • Acquire cross-skilling in other technologies to support future expansion and network evolution

About You

You should possess a technical background, ideally with substantial network assurance experience in one or more nbn technologies such as HFC ISP, Ethernet, DWDM, GPON, or VDSL. Experience in outside plant construction across Fibre, HFC, or Copper network builds would be advantageous.

You will be a natural problem solver with a methodical approach and a quick learning aptitude. Your flexibility, adaptability, and ability to manage conflicting priorities will contribute to your success in this role. Given the demands of this position, you will be a highly organized team player, capable of thriving in a dynamic work environment.
