Counsellor Role

We are seeking a qualified Counsellor to join our team at Rivercrest Christian College.

  • This is a part-time position that will commence on 6 October 2025, working 22.8 hours per week. There may be potential for an increase in hours in the future, subject to organisational requirements and mutual agreement.
Job Description:

The successful candidate will work as part of a dedicated, multidisciplinary Wellbeing Team to provide high-quality counselling services that support the psychological, emotional, and physical wellbeing of students across both Primary and Secondary levels.

The role involves providing short-term counselling, risk assessments, crisis intervention, and case management to support the emotional and psychological wellbeing of students. The Counsellor will also collaborate with the Wellbeing Team to assess and support students with behavioural, social, and emotional needs.

The Counsellor will assist students in achieving their academic, personal, and career goals, and support those at risk of disengagement. They will deliver counselling in individual and group settings and liaise with external agencies to ensure coordinated care and clear referral pathways.

The Counsellor will communicate proactively with staff and families to identify and support students' social-emotional needs. They will promote a whole-school approach to wellbeing and contribute to the development of a positive and inclusive school culture.

The successful candidate will have experience counselling children and adolescents in an educational or youth-focused setting, proficiency in evidence-based therapeutic approaches such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and/or Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and sound understanding of learning disabilities and how they impact student wellbeing.

The Counsellor will work collaboratively with teaching staff, contributing to wellbeing policy development and offering professional learning on wellbeing practices.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

The successful candidate will possess:

  • A qualification in counselling or youth work from an Australian Counselling Association (ACA) approved course.
  • Current membership with a relevant professional association for psychology, counselling, social work, or youth work.
  • Proven experience counselling children and adolescents in an educational or youth-focused setting.
  • Proficiency in evidence-based therapeutic approaches such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and/or Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).
  • Sound understanding of learning disabilities and how they impact student wellbeing.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct wellbeing and risk assessments and implement appropriate responses.
  • Strong written communication skills, including the ability to maintain professional documentation and case notes.
