Governance & Public Officer Role

Job Overview

This senior leadership position is responsible for overseeing the governance and procurement functions of a local government authority. The ideal candidate will possess excellent liaison skills, with the ability to effectively communicate between stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement governance policies, processes and procedures in compliance with legislation and statutory requirements.
  • Manage customer access to information through formal and informal applications, including reporting obligations within statutory timeframes.
  • Oversee the development of Council's procurement and contract management policy framework and monitor organisational practices for fairness, transparency and accountability.
  • Prepare and distribute meeting agendas, business papers and minutes, including council chambers set-up and attendance at all council meetings and workshops as required.
  • Provide support, guidance and training to elected officials on their statutory obligations and assist with their reporting requirements where necessary.
  • Manage an efficient customer handling and tracking system for enquiries and responses.
Essential Qualifications:
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in a similar managerial role.
  • Degree in a relevant field (Law, Business Management or related discipline).
  • Extensive experience in governance and procurement, preferably within local government.
  • Demonstrated experience in implementing governance frameworks, managing compliance, and overseeing meeting protocols; proven analytical and investigative skills.
  • Highly proficient in developing and implementing Governance and Procurement Policies, Systems, Procedures, Processes and Controls.
