Sustainability Leader

Make a lasting impact in the mining sector with this pivotal role.

We are seeking a Sustainability Leader to drive environmental excellence across our Australian projects. This exciting opportunity offers a chance to shape sustainable practices, mentor project-level advisors, and elevate environmental management at diverse mining sites.

  • Lead and mentor site environmental teams, ensuring accountability for team contributions toward achieving environmental objectives.
  • Provide strategic input to the Sustainability Strategy and manage its implementation across Thiess' Australian projects, including the development of annual business plans and KPIs.
  • Offer technical expertise and support to ensure compliance with client and legislative environmental requirements, while assisting sites in managing environmental contractual matters.
  • Manage internal environmental audits across Australian sites, developing governance processes, and representing the organization on key industry committees.
  • Support the development of new services, identify commercial opportunities, and provide essential environmental input for tender submissions, including risk assessments and cost estimates.

You will be at the forefront of environmental initiatives in the mining industry.

About You
  • Experience in mine site operations and strong understanding of environmental challenges in the mining industry.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, enabling clear and persuasive conveyance of complex concepts.
  • High-level influencing abilities to engage stakeholders at all organisational levels, driving support for environmental initiatives.
  • Degree in Environmental Management/ Science or equivalent.
  • ISO 14001 environmental management system experience - development and implementation.
  • Experienced site environmental auditor.
  • Strong environmental legislative knowledge.
  • Sound understanding of mine site environmental issues.
  • Contracts Management Experience.
